Divine Presence: the secret to greatness.

“So, David waxed greater and greater: for the LORD of hosts was with him.” 1Chronicles. 11:9, KJV.

The Scriptures often speak of God’s presence in human history. The most common Hebrew term for “presence” is ‘panim’, which is also translated “face,” implying a close and personal encounter with the Lord. The Greek word ‘prosopon’ has the same semantic range.

Today, many believers boast of the length of time they have been Christians, the denomination they belong to, or the church they attend. However, our walk in Christ is not determined by any of these things. But it is rather determined by how much time we spend in the presence of God.

The church we belong to does not change anyone, but rather when we have daily communion with the Lord, that is where real change begins. Some have been in church for years, while others have been there for months. But there could be new believers who are more mature than the older ones because of their conscious efforts in constantly seeking God’s presence.

Whenever we spend much time in his presence, we attract his manifested presence upon our lives. David as a young shepherd boy constantly spent time in the wilderness before God, ministering to Him in Psalms and Hymns. He had an incredible lifestyle of worship. By this, he attracted God’s manifested presence upon his life. The effects of the presence of God became visible to all.

From the above scripture, you will notice that, the greatness of David was not attributed to his conquest against Goliath, neither was his excellent leadership as a king nor the killing of lions and bears. Rather it was attributed to the presence of God upon his life. Because David’s background, exposure and strength couldn’t have taken him to those heights without the help of God.

Beloved, God is invisible but the effects of His presence are visible. When we desire for His presence and consciously make effort to spend time with Him just as David, His presence will be ignited in our lives and there will be a great transformation that people cannot ignore. God is calling us to a higher life of transformation and that is becoming like Jesus or David the least.

We don’t become like them just by being disciplined, tithing or going to church on Sundays alone. All of these are good habits and we should constantly practice them, but the real deal is the supernatural encounter, that is, face to face with the living God. Knowing the Lord is to have an experience with Him; it goes beyond the mere studying of theology or hearing about Him from other people’s testimony. When we are exposed to the presence of God, we will see that transformation. God is holy. He is all-powerful. We cannot take his presence for granted.

Today, God is inviting us to spend time in His presence. It is not about how long we spend in our prayer room but how much of Him we carry around in our daily activities. Are you going to respond to this invitation or ignore? It’s time to make that decision.

Pray with me:

Heavenly Father, I come to You recognizing that You are the only one who can empower and catapult me into greatness. I am tired of living the same way! I’m tired of having an empty life! I need to be transformed. Help me to become more like You. In Jesus precious name! Amen!
